AMD Chief Technical Officer Mark Papermaster confirmed in an interview with YouTube channel No Priors that the company is upgrading FSR technology to take advantage of the benefits of artificial intelligence.

The main technological difference between  FSR technology and competition solutions from Infidia DLSS and Intel XeSS was AMD’s failure to use artificial intelligence in any part of FSR technology. The ability of FSR technology is to render the graphic scene as if it works with high precision, and you’ll find that the game you play with 1080 pixels looks like it works with 1440 pixels, thanks to the technology that fills the pixels.

Unlike FSR, each DLSS and Intel XeSS technology uses the Deep Neural Network (DNN) to improve the quality of images or videos by overcoming errors or distortions that appear due to the speed of tyre capture being different from the speed of display.

At the same time, AMD supports this technology by providing its (source code) to developers on the GPUOpen platform for free, which is also available within the Unreal Engine 4 engine and Unity engine, and game developers can use this technology to work with games without problem.

The difference between them is that DLSS can be operated on INFIDIA’s Graphic Processing Unit only, unlike the FSR technology running on AMD’s Graphic Processing Unit, INFIDIA, and Intel without limitations.

In response to a question from No Priors about the role of artificial intelligence in FSR technology, Mark Papermaster replied: “2024 is an important year for us; Because we have spent many years developing our capabilities in AI hardware and software. We have just made it possible for our entire group to use artificial intelligence, including cloud, personal computers, compact devices and gaming devices. “
